The Chair of First Aid, Emergency and Civil Protection of the Armenian State Pedagogical University (ASPU) hosted a student scientific conference under the title “The Role of Medical Science in the Development of Pedagogical Competencies”.
The aim of the event was to provide students, PhD applicants and PhD students with an academic platform to present and discuss their respective studies and ideas.
ASPU Rector Srbuhi Gevorgyan attached importance to the scientific conference devoted to this current topic, noting that importance is attached to the relationship between medical science and pedagogy through physiology due to the interesting topics included in the program.
The Rector noted that the ASPU is making large-scale reforms in the area of teaching methodologies, and she fully hopes that the transmission of knowledge during the conference will also serve as a condition for providing certain solutions to the problems that the ASPU faces and is engaged in today.
Professor Gevorgyan talked about the significance of the stages of personal growth in terms of intellectual, social and psychological development and underscored the importance of acquiring knowledge about physiological and different types of diseases in our days, noting that the objective of forming pedagogical competencies mostly helps establish the primary dangers, risks and challenges that each of us has been facing on a daily basis over the past years.
By the way, the academic event was marked by the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation concluded between the ASPU and Gavar State Medical College. Rector Srbuhi Gevorgyan voiced hope that the document will not be just a protocol, that both parties will cooperate to hold different programs and the experience in education and the to-be-implemented processes will help provide an opportunity to deepen students’ professional knowledge.
Director of Gavar State Medical College Hayk Sirakanyan fully hopes that the cooperating parties will be able to foster further development of society through their activities. According to him, it is not by chance that healthcare and pedagogy have always been in harmony. The College’s Director also attached importance to public awareness about diseases and their prevention, noting that this will help make it possible to avoid potential risks.
ASPU Vice-Rector for HR Management and International Cooperation Marianna Harutyunyan assured that the Armenian State Pedagogical University attaches importance to partnership and the reciprocal visits of educational institutions and is ready to assist and cooperate since the ASPU is a multi-purpose university with alumni who carry out large-scale activities at medical, rehabilitative and special types of institutions.
Head of the Chair of First Aid, Emergency and Civil Protection Narine Sahakyan touched upon the importance of medical science in the development of pedagogical competencies and underscored the fact that the ASPU stands out with its activities — the University prepares physician-pedagogues, as well as pedagogues who shape the doctors of tomorrow. “Today, the educational system is dictating the new characteristics of a pedagogue, that is, a researcher-pedagogue, who has a clearly defined educational orientation hinged on the characteristics of pedagogy, psychology, medicine and the theory of physiology. Since the 1960s, the ASPU has had two Chairs that have always set a high bar. Even today, the courses, educational and academic programs of the combined Chairs are aimed at improving the educational process and preparing quality pedagogues of our times,” the Head of the Chair remarked.
The participants of the scientific conference entitled “The Role of Medical Science in the Development of Pedagogical Competencies” touched upon the modern aspects of neuroeducation, the medical-psychological characterization of a pedagogue in the educational process, the assessment of academic emotions of learners in emergency situations, the speech disorders that children have in the area of medicine and biology, the diagnosis of behavioral disorders of pupils and the paths for fixing those disorders, etc.
The speakers of a number of topics presented the directions for, scope of and methods for the studies that the ASPU conducts, noting that education is facing a number of problems and challenges and that the potential and innovative approaches of young scientists are required in order to solve and overcome most of those problems and challenges.
Summing up the scientific conference, Dean of the Faculty of Special and Inclusive Education Gohar Hovyan viewed it as instructive, as well as analytically and methodically significant event. She presented her Faculty’s activities, the involvement of the ASPU in the process of universal inclusion in Armenia and the involvement of students with basic medical education in that process at the Faculty of Special and Inclusive Education.
Professor Hovyan expressed hope that the two educational institutions will continue to collaborate and that the foundation will be laid for a new and major direction in science, that is, medical-pedagogical approaches.
This was followed by an interesting discussion and question-and-answer session. At the end of the scientific conference, the participants received their certificates.
