From 24 to 27 April, Armenian State Pedagogical University hosted a group of lecturers from the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences of Vienna, and Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University. They visited the University at the invitation of the Chair of Geography and its Teaching Methods.
The partnership between Armenia, Austria and Georgia started in 2016 within the framework of the project “Transdisciplinarity for Sustainable Tourism Development in the Caucasus Region (CaucaSusT)” which is funded by APPEAR [Austrian Partnership Programme in Higher Education and Research for Development], a programme of the Austrian Development Cooperation.
The main objective of the workshop was to train lecturers and prepare them for transdisciplinarity teaching and field research.
ASPU Vice-Rector Ara Yeremyan stressed the importance of the cooperation and implementation of such projects, wishing the participants effective and energetic working days.
The workshop was accompanied by a series of lectures, discussions and various events. On the first day of the meeting, the participants summed up the results of field research and work carried out by Armenian and Georgian teams.
At the end of the day, Armenian and foreign lecturers visited the Tsitsernakaberd Memorial Complex in Yerevan to pay tribute to the victims of the Armenian Genocide.
The meetings of the next two days were held in Dilijan and Meghradzor. The discussions were attended by NGOs dealing with issues of sustainable tourism development, heads of communities and local residents.
Lecturers were involved in active discussions with all interested parties, trying to identify the existing problems, as well as challenges and obstacles to tourism development.
The foreign partners of the Pedagogical University were impressed by the activity and hospitality of the locals, as well as by the high-level preparedness, deep professional knowledge and skills of the Armenian team.
The last day of the meetings turned out to be the busiest day of the workshop. The participants summed up the results and outlined plans for future work.
3rd- and 4th-year students of the ASPU majoring in Geography had prepared a surprise for the guests. With the help of small performances they showed the potential of tourism and cultural diversity in Armenia.
The workshop served its purpose. Project coordinators also expressed their satisfaction with the results. Andreas Muhar, Krsitian Baungardner, Joseph Salukvadze, Ashot Khoetsyan as well as external expert Armen Gevorgyan and representative of the donor organization, Nora Alanakyan, thanked the head of the Chair, Ashot Khoetsyan, and Associate Professor Marine Matevosyan, stressing the the effectiveness of the workshop.
The workshop was also attended by representatives of other faculties of the university and guest lecturers from Yerevan State University.
