14 November marks the International Day of Logopaedists. On the professional holiday the Pedagogical University’s Chair of Logopaedics and Rehabilitation Therapy initiated a number of events.
A workshop, exhibition of students’ hand-crafted games, distribution of information booklets in crowded streets of the city, and the novelty of the year- a search game in the area of Logopaedics, during which students tried to find, resolve and succeed in their assignments.
The participants of the event were greeted by the Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences Arminei Kirakosyan who congratulated on the professional holiday, after which introduced the educational manual on “Theoretical and Practical Approaches in Speech Therapy Research ” developed jointly with the Associate Professor of the Chair Siran Karapetyan.
In her turn, the Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences Astghik Grigoryan presented articulation exercises in poetry format.
Furthermore, the Professor of the US Concordia University Kevin Miller, who is teaching at the Pedagogical University’s Faculty of Special Education within the scope of the Fulbright US professors’ exchange programme, congratulates all those present on the professional day of Logopaedists.
The American Professor discussed the results of the research for the logopaedists and specialists of deaf-and-dumb pedagogy published on the website, which mainly aimed at finding out the primary issues that a specialist should be concerned with while working with children.
The Professor noticed that communication issues exists in the profession both in Western part of the World, and in Armenia, after which with the help of questions and answers, he found out the opinions of practicing and future specialists about the factors influencing communication among the teenagers.
What is more, within the scope of the event, the students also made presentations by telling logo-fairy tales that help creating speech material for the speech therapy activities.
In addition, on the professional holiday, the hand-crafted games presented by the students differed from the previous ones surprising with their applicability and peculiarities.
The Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences Emilia Tadevosyan mentioned that the students, authoring the games, had prepared them during two lessons and the aim was to exercise speech breath, motor function, strengthen the sounds, as well as to develop the capacity to differentiate the same phonemes.
Out of all the presented games, the lecturer of the Chair of Logopaedics and Rehabilitation Therapy outlined the electronic ones that were created for mid-term exams and would further serve as a practical tool for logopaedists.
How to recover speech after the attack, and what to do if a child has a short sublingual curb? Araksia Lobodich was distributing information booklets to the passers-by on the topics summarizing the event on the International Day of Logopaedists.
The student of the Pedagogical University, who has been studying the secrets of the Logopaedics for the second year, also congratulates on the professional holiday and gladly mentions that the event organized on this occasion once again proved the correct choice of profession and the wide range of opportunities to be creative.
“The Professional Day of Logopaedists has started to be highlighted and celebrated also in Armenia, and this increases interest towards the profession. Thanks to such initiatives, the students also become more active and realize that this is their celebration, too”, the Head of the Chair of Logopaedics and Rehabilitation Therapy Zhanna Paylozyan mentioned in her interview to the old.aspu.am, wishing her colleagues energy and professional durability.
