The Acting Rector of the Pedagogical University Srbouhi Gevorgyan handed over certificates to the participants of a training course on foreign languages (English language).
The 60-hour A2-B1 level training course was held in the period of 18 November 2021 to 7 January of the current year; 13 lecturers with a 90-100 score in foreign languages competition participated in the training session. In order to gain practical skills, the training courses were held in person and by the use of interactive methods.
“Knowledge of foreign languages among the Faculty of the University is not quite on the desired level, while the University competitiveness, as well as its involvement in international processes forces us to review this. Pedagogy is no longer a merely theoretical process, but the ability to master specific components, including language skills. There is no other Armenian university to offer such a free training course, and the process that we provide is, in fact, aimed at filling in that gap and it is planned to be of continuous nature”, mentioned the Acting Rector Srbouhi Gevorgyan.
Likewise, the latter noted that they would be able to speak of effectiveness only when the acquired knowledge served its purpose in professional processes, during participation in international projects, professional literature and work with students. Moreover, the Rector advised to mark down the gaps and shortcomings of the training course, to be able to ensure further effectiveness, qualitative changes and improvements thereof.
The Vice-Rector for Education and Science Mariam Ispiryan expressed acknowledgements for active and consistent participation in the training course and observed that in fact the University had been offering training courses in various areas since 2011.
In her turn, the Trainer, Associate Professor of Romance-Germanic Languages and their Teaching Methods, Candidate of Pedagogy Susanna Baghdasaryan was happy with the results of the course and with the fact that the participants had passed the exams and the entry threshold, by receiving a good score.
Furthermore, the participants of the training course also highlighted the effectiveness of the training, the rich course programme, and noticeable improvements in their language skills. They shared that they attended the training with a student’s sense of responsibility. Besides, they noticed that the training course would better serve its purpose if it lasted longer, and in order to test the knowledge, they suggested to repeat the exam after some time.
The Acting Rector Srbouhi Gevorgyan hoped that the pilot training course of foreign language would become a unique filter for proper arrangement of further relevant processes, and that the knowledge of foreign languages would become a lifestyle.
