It’s already the fourth year that by the initiative of the Armenian Youth Foundation and the ASEU, the intercollegiate championship “Lecturers’ Cup” is organized with the participation of various lecturers of universities of Armenia.
The championship involved 4 types of sports- chess, shooting, volleyball, table tennis; three of the mentioned added up to Pedagogical University’s success stories in sports.
During the Championship closing event and the awards ceremony the Coordinator of the AYF Board of Trustees Karen Avagyan highlighted the importance of organizing lecturers’ competitions and added that physical activity and education should be contagious despite age, group and activities. It is important that the lecturers themselves demonstrate with their own example healthy lifestyle and physical education norms that the students should also pursue.
The ASPU representatives in the Chess Championship consisted of the Lecturer of the Chair of Chess and Sports Samvel Misakyan and the lecturer of the Chair of Informatics and its Teaching Methods Armen Avagyan; the shooting team consisted of the lecturers of the Chair of Chess and Sports Anahit Terzyan, Harutyun Muradyan, Davit Alexanyan and Ivan Karapetyan, and the volleyball team comprised lecturers from different Chairs.
In the team competition of fast chess the ASPU lecturers won over all competitors; the game for the Victory Cup was with the team of the Armenian National Polytechnic University.
In his interview to the old.aspu.am the lecturer of the Chair of Chess and Sports Samvel Misakyan stressed out significance of intercollegiate championships; he noticed that even though chess teachers study at the Pedagogical University, in other Universities the practice was also set on good basis.
“A Cup is equally pride and obligation; our future objective is to disseminate this sport among women too. Next year the team will have more members”, mentioned Samvel Misakyan and added that the new department for Chess with full –time and distant learning courses, to be opened at the Pedagogical University in the academic year 2017-2018, would contribute to raising interest towards the royal game. Besides, in his opinion the decision was not only required but also compulsory as the subject itself was compulsory at elementary schools.
“Chess is Philosophy, art, science”, mentions the lecturer of the Chair of Informatics and its Teaching Methods Armen Avagyan- member of the team that brought victory to the university at the intercollegiate championship. Despite the fact that the latter did not go for Chess professionally, he still participated in fast chess championships several times and is the winner of the university championship held at the Pedagogical.
Summing up the results of the “Lecturers’ Cup” intercollegiate championship held on 27 January, the chess and shooting teams of the Pedagogical University brought two 1st place Cups and a 3rd place Cup in volleyball.
