On April 6, Armenian State Pedagogical University hosted Tamara Guzenkova, Doctor of History, Deputy Director of the Russian Institute for Strategic Studies (RISS).
When introducing the guest to the teaching staff and students of the Faculty of History and Law, Head of the Chair of World History and its Teaching Method, Ruben Safrastyan, said she is an outstanding historian and political scientist, who always provides analysis on political processes and other actual issues in Russia. Speaking about the RISS, Mr Safaryan said it is one of the leading analytical centres in Russia which has its unique place in the scientific-research and analytical life of the country.
Tamara Guzenkova first spoke about the recent tensions on the Line of Contact between Karabakh and Azerbaijani armed forces, stressing that RISS specialists believe that Turkey had its negative role in the escalation of conflict which is determined by the situation in Syria and Russia’s role in it.
She expressed hope that the agreement on ceasefire [which came into force on April 5] will be honoured by the conflicting sides and all issues will be resolved in the political domain.
Tamara Guzenkova presented a report entitled “European Integration: Value Orientations,” noting that together with her Armenian colleagues from the RISS they are analyzing many issues, including Armenia’s membership to the Eurasian Economic Union. As a partner Armenia is very important and significant for us: this is a country where Russia has strong political, military and economic ties, and the valuable potential allows us to collaborate and implement serious projects in different sectors.
In her speech, the guest speaker gave a detailed description of each country included in the European Union, speaking about its role, geopolitical conflicts and clashes of political and economic interests. She stressed that everyone should learn serious lessons [from them] and try to solve the existing problems in the political realm.
The meeting was followed by a question and answer session, with the attendees asking the Russian political analyst about Armenia’s role in the EEU, the possibility of recognition of Nagorno Karabakh's independence by Armenia and Russia, RISS’s stance on events taking place in Armenia, etc.
Ruben Safrastyan thanked the guest for the interesting and meaningful speech, emphasizing at the same time the honest and centuries-old friendship between Armenia and Russia. In conclusion, he said that Russia is a unique strategic ally for Armenia.
