“When there is memory, there will be patriotism”

The presentation of the book “The Call of Blood” by Professor Hrant Patrikyan took place at Armenian State Pedagogical University.

Before that, the participants laid a wreath at the khachkar (cross-stone) near the ASPU building and then attended the presentation which was also attended by Karabakh war participants, their relatives, military figures, guests and students.

The event led by Vardapet (Archimandrite) Ter Torgom started with the Lord’s Prayer for the sake of peace of martyrs and continued with patriotic songs and greetings.

Tigran Petrosyants, a freedom fighter, the editor of the book and Head of the ASPU library, stressed in his speech the role of ASPU representatives in the national liberation struggle. “Together with other participants, they wrought a great victory on all fronts. We are enjoying the fruits of that victory to this day. The act of ASPU members made us think about reviving memories about them: when there is memory, there will be patriotism.”

Before the publication of the book, all articles were published in the official newspaper of the ASPU – “Pedagogical University.”

Dean of the Faculty of History at Yerevan State University, Doctor of Philosophy and Professor Edik Minasyan stressed the importance of the book, saying ‘they fought with patriotic pathos for their homeland: this can serve as a good example for young people.’

“… Not to surrender their land to the enemy, win a united victory, keep up the dignity of generations and be proud of the national dignity,” the Professor read out several lines from the book urging the young people [present at the presentation] to have a copy of “The Call of Blood” on their tables and read it from time to time as ‘it is the call of the blood of our heroes.’

Ruzanna Gorgisyan, the widow of Armenian national hero Movses Gorgisyan, thanked the Professor for encouraging readers to read the book and assured everyone that the 70-year-old Armenian [Hrant Patrikyan] with pedagogical experience of over 50 years had accomplished his mission with the call of blood.

“The Artsakh war is part of the dream of the Armenian people. The book encourages us to ‘die’ and ‘live’ with each and every soldier and awaken the slumbering conscience of the world,” Ruzanna Gorgisyan said adding we have always won and will continue to win with the call of our blood.

The speech made by Lieutenant-General Muraz Sargsyan was a real lesson for the young people on loyalty and patriotism. Turning over the pages of history, the military figure said 'each of them is a hero not only for his parents and children, but also for the country and each of its citizens.'

“Wars are not won by arms, but by knowledge. Continue to learn, study the history of your country and be united,” Mr. Sargsyan said adding that the united spirit accompanied Armenians in all wars, helped them win because they were educated as such.

In his speech, Hrant Patrikyan, the author of the book, said that the vigilant history always reminds us that ‘we owe to the past, present and future.’ “Armenians have always worshipped the cross and writing, rather than the sword. The blood of Armenians, which was richly shed on altars of history over time, was composed in that way,” he said assuring everyone on behalf of ASPU representatives that every time people are proud to give the names of those heroes who brought us the final history: they created history for our future generations to be able to turn over the pages one by one and learn lessons of patriotism, humanity and national dignity.

The book presents the biography of ASPU students, lecturers and graduates who participated in the 1989-1994 war. The work on the book started some ten years ago.

The Call of Blood was published upon the recommendation and sponsorship of the ASPU Scientific Board.
