Winners of 'sermon competition' known

International Children's Day is celebrated annually on June 1st. Time proves that in the 21st century, the development, safety and security of society and the rights of children are interwoven. Today, childhood is viewed not only in the context of children’s biological maturation, but also in terms of certain social status, rights and responsibilities typical of that age group. "The Pedagogical University could not stay indifferent and not respond to the main event of the day," Head of the Chair of Pedagogy Aida Topuzyan said during the "My University is 100 years old" competition.

Professor Topuzyan expressed hope that more or less reasonable people with national consciousness would always remain faithful to the ideas andhigh value of childhood, to which ASPU has always remained faithful.

This year, the traditional competition organized by the Chair was dedicated to the 100th anniversary of ASPU; the framework has been expanded to include student sermons and social media contests.

Twenty-four students from different faculties of the university participated in the event entitled "My University is 100 years old." They touched upon a number of issues, including career orientation of high school students, development of their decision-making skills, etc.

In the final round, the students of several schools in Yerevan and State Puppet Theatre had the opportunity to choose the 3 winners among 5 nominees in the "Best Sermon" and "Best Social Midea Video" categories.

"Our main concern must be the young generation of this country," in their sermons the contestants presented the children the mission of the university, the traditions of the educational forge that has passed the path of struggles and victories, and stressed that the message of the Great Enlightener (Grigor Lusavorich) still serves as a guideline for them.

A doctor treats the body and a pedagogue treats the soul. Today's changing world needs the best teachers, who will be armed with the maximum amount of knowledge and will be ready to share it in an interesting and easy way. It is impossible to teach a man for a lifetime; he must be taught throughout his life," said Arus Ayvazyan, a student of the Faculty of Primary Education who became winner in the "Best Sermon" category.

The participants of the competition presented their thoughts and feelings about the difficult but important choice of profession, as wellas the importance of pedagogical education and university life in the media sphere as well.

The winners in the "Best Social Media Video" category and the 1st honorable place were Lusine Makinyan and Mariam Yepremyan, both students of the Faculty of Primary Education. They received awards from the DVV International Armenia's Country Office as well.

"Teaching is first of all about relationships with children - relationships that are built on the principles of pluralism, mutual respect, tolerance, rule of law, participation, and person-centered care. One hundred years speaks to wisdom, as well as to great responsibility, to invest that wisdom and experience for the benefit of an individual and public welfare," said Misha Tadosyan, once a student, now a lecturer at ASPU who was the winner of the first competition (2014).

Ashot Galstyan, Dean of the Faculty of Philology, Heghine Khachatryan, Dean of the Faculty of Primary Education, and Professor Aelita Dolukhanyan also congratulated the participants of the competition and stressed the importance of the event.

Let us add that the speeches of the participants will soon be available on Radio Fama - the first university radio in Armenia.
