The Teqeyan annual awards took place; every year the awards ceremony evaluates and announces the best cultural figures. For already two decades the Union is giving awards to the representatives of the spheres of literature, music, fine arts and other fields of culture.
The President of the Teqeyan Cultural Union in Armenia, the Rector of the Pedagogical University Rouben Mirzakhanyan congratulated this year’s winners and thanked the assessment committees for the impartial selection.
This year, the awards in the “Music” nomination went to the Chief Conductor and Artistic Director of the Armenian State Philharmonic Orchestra, the RA Honored Art Figure Mr. Eduard Topchyan for his fruitful work in 2017. The best nominee in the “Finer Arts” category was the Associate Professor of the ASPU Chair of Fine Arts Mr. Misack Melckonyan for his sculpture “The Violin Player”. The awards in the nomination “Theatric Art” went to the State Dramatic Theater of Gyurmi after Vardan Atchemyan for the performance “Light Blue Eyes”, and the winner of the Teqeyan awards in the “Literature” nomination was poet Manvel Mikoyan with his collection of poems called “Outside the Shadows”.
“Awards are always problematic as there is always a good one, and the best one both for the jury and the public”, mentioned the Head of the US and Canadian branch of the Teqeyan Cultural Union Mr. Ervand Azatyan and added that Manvel Mikoyan’s collection of poems called “Outside the Shadow” was full of poetic surprises, reflected the glory of the Armenian courageous people , while the current phenomena of life became poetic and were represented via sophisticated images.
The poet considered it a great honor to receive the award named after the great poet and added that it obliged to stay dedicated to the title of poet.
The RA honored art figure, the ASPU Head of the Chair of TV Direction, Professor Armen Elbakyan had watched the performance “Light Blue Eyes” that won the award. He assures that Garcia Marquez is a complicated author, and it is even more difficult to put his plays on stage.
“The authors of the performance can overcome those difficulties and stage a performance with emotions and dreams. It is like a world drawn with a piece of chalk, which has the tendency to get deleted”, mentioned the Professor and observed that the young creative group stayed true to the work and to Marquez’ principles.
“Prizes are very important for us- young people”, confessed the members of the creative team of the performance and assured that they even though they did their best, they’ll still strive for more.
When awarding the prize to the winner in the “Musical” nomination Mr. Eduard Topchyan, the Editor-in-Chief of the “Azg”[Nation] newspapers Mr. Hakob Avetiqyan stressed out that those prizes are the proof of years’ contribution, the source of accumulated work. Likewise, Mr. Eduatd Topchyn considered the prize as his huge pride and confessed that if he was born again, he would be a musician.
The Professor of the Pedagogical University Hravard Hakobyan referred to the works of the winner in the nomination “Fine Arts” - Misack Melckonyan, and outlined that the sculpture of “Violin Player” had been selected out of his numerous works; it takes observers closer to music.
“Usually, the art loving society is strict and non-tolerant. If my work was highly praised, it means my sculpture is successful” mentioned Misack Melckonyan and emphasized that the Teqeuan cultural center is doing a very honorable job.
‘Last but not least, the Pop Band of Radio and television conducted by Ervand Yerznkyan also performed during the awards ceremony.
