Working meeting with deans of faculties and heads of chairs

ASPU Rector Ruben Mirzakhanyan had a working meeting with the deans of the faculties and head of the chairs on June 29.

The aim of the meeting was to discuss the revised curricula and the proposed changes in the Google Classroom platform ahead of the new academic year.

Mher Melik-Bakhshyan, ASPU Vice-Rector for Education Process Planning and Organization, stressed that they had completely revised Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes for full-time and distance learning studies, fixed the duration of teaching and educational practices and semesters, reducing lecturers’ workload by two weeks. Ruben Mirzakhanyan stressed that the changes would significantly better the quality of the education process and the everyday work of the University. He added that they tried to avoid layoffs despite the decline in the number of applicants in the 2018-2019 academic year.

eferring to the revision of curricula, the rector said they were able to bring them closer of the average standards of the country’s higher education systems. Speaking about final examinations, the rector hailed the changes introduced in the content of the final exams, saying they had made the right decision.

The next issue on the agenda referred to the proposed changes in the Google Classroom platform. Mkrtich Avagyan, Head of the Education Reforms and Quality Assurance Department, presented the results of the work of the relevant committee and the corresponding proposals underlining that they were based on the complaints of students and lecturers.

Mkrtich Avagyan presented a draft document with the changes which, he said, would be submitted to the ASPU Scientific Council for approval.

Ruben Mirzakhanyan once again stressed the importance of the platform in terms of strengthening online interaction between lecturers and learners and added that the changes would be introduced at the beginning of the new academic year.

"The system has drawbacks, but we should continue to improve it and take practical steps to achieve tangible results," Mr. Mirzakhanyan said.

Ruben Mirzakhanyan stressed that it is important to include in the committee students and lecturers who have come up with suggestions on the platform and instructed the heads of the chairs to discuss the proposals in the meetings of relevant chairs.
