Today, the Acting Rector of the Pedagogical University, Professor Ashot Khoyetsyan had a working meeting with the academic staff of the Faculty of Education Psychology and Sociology of the ASPU.
The aim of the meeting was to reveal the gaps of educational processes of the Faculty, to identify issues of scientific and educational field, and review planned activities before the session of the Academic Board.
In his speech the Rector mentioned the following:
“Our Faculties and Chairs are the decisive links of the University; such meetings will be continuous. I hope that the raised questions will act as a guideline for further improvements and problem solving. If we are going to train professionals, they should only be of high quality; and the quality should be in all aspects, including knowledgeable and skillful graduates, the results of research activities, and in the moral and psychological environment of the University.”
Further on, during the meeting the Dean of the Faculty of Education Psychology and Sociology, Candidate of Psychology Ruzanna Petrosyan introduced the capacity of their Faculty, its activities, the conducted research activities, and the number of full-time and distant -learning students.
The Dean also noticed that in the recent years there had been increased interest towards “military psychology” and that just like previously, the Faculty was pursuing students -centered policy.
During the working meeting, several Faculty members shared with the Head of the University some of their observations and suggestions in regards with several issues.
The psychologists- sociologist agreed that their fields are developing fast and that the University should create conditions that would allow professional growth, such as laboratories, research centers, and a wider scope of opportunities for internships.
What is more, during the meeting, discussions of various issues regarding the review of the curricula, the workload of the lecturers, and introduction of additional education were also held.
According to the Vice-Rector for Academic Matters, Professor Srbouhi Gevorgyan, in case of implementation of the programmes they could have practical solutions based on psychological and sociological results, and a number of issues would be solved.
The latter also added that out of the presented proposals the priority would be given to the most important ones, with the emphasis to their research results and practical outcomes.
The Vice-Rector also assured that a working version with certain formulations and proposals already existed which was going to be reviewed by the corresponding group.
Summing up, the Acting Rector Ashot Khoyetsyan once again highlighted that knowledge and pedagogic skills should be a priority, and quality education and a strong educational system should be the most important.
