Works of art made from plastic waste

An exhibition of recycled plastics entitled “Create Art from Plastic Waste” has opened today.

Participating in the exhibition are also Seda Hakobyan, Lilit Karapetyan, Mariam Melikbekyan, Marine Baghdasaryan, Seda Gharibyan and Lusine Simonyan - all students of the ASPU Faculty of Art Education.

Talking to old.aspu.am, they said that the porgramme is of great interest to them and with their participation they are trying to call attention to a number of environmental issues, to show the relationship between nature and human beings, where Man himself is the greatest danger. They think that such programmes are a must for informing people [of environmental problems] and infecting them with similar ideas.

As part of a project funded by the Swiss Agency for Cooperation and Development (SDC), they first competed in the selection phase and then presented their portfolios - methods and ways to implement the ideas.

The programme brought together students and representatives of different institutions. The task was the same for everyone: to create works of art from waste, mainly from plastic, thereby informing people about the most important issue.

The ASPU students worked in different groups. The young creators exhibited conceptual installations made of plastic waste and videos informing people about the environmental problems and pollution.

The supervisor was fashion designer Vahan Khachatryan, who particularly emphasized the participation of young people - as educators of next generations. He thanked the Swiss Embassy in Armenia for cooperation and successful implementation of programme and expressed hope that more programmes on such issues will be organized in the future.

Deputy Minister of Environment Anna Mazmanyan, was also present at the opening of the exhibition. She hailed the efforts of emphasizing the role of art and environmental problems. The deputy minister believes that such initiatives that focus on environmental issues and offer solutions to them are of great importance in our country.

The exhibition will run until October 9 (7.00 p.m.)
