The meetings of the ASPU Rector Rouben Mirzakhanyan with the University’s teaching –professorial staff continue.
On this occasion, the Rector met the teams of 6 Chairs for the Faculty of Foreign Languages. He expressed his concerns regarding the non-active application of e-learning installed at the University, at the same time highlighting its actuality and importance.
“The decision of the Academic Board related to the Google classroom was discussed and introduced in all Faculties; some of them have faced no issues, and a vast number of students is highly appreciating it”, said the Rector and underlined that the Faculty of Foreign Languages was also supposed to join the list.
During the meeting the Head of the Department of Education Reforms and Quality Assurance Mkrtich Avagyan discussed the rating assessment of professional activities of the teaching staff of the Pedagogical University.
The later referred to the aims and main objectives of the rating assessment, its formation principles, the format, thoroughly presenting the privileges and introducing the electronic rating platform, the process of rating data entry by lecturers, etc.
The reporter observed that on the page of automatic learning process management an upcoming meeting –tutorial was foreseen regarding the technical management of data entry with the specialists from the Faculties and Chairs, as well as the latter will be assigned to listen to the reports by permanent lecturers about work fulfilled in 2016.
Likewise, each lecturer will be assigned to also create a portfolio preserving rating data entry basis, while the permanent lecturers shall enter personal data on the automatic learning process management page.
Afterwards, the Head of the Internship Centre Vahan Sargsyan introduced the outcomes of the pedagogical internship to the Faculty of Foreign Languages.
He spoke about the analysis conducted by the Centre on defending internships presenting the details on strengths and weaknesses.
In fact, internship defence is a novelty at the ASPU. From now on, the mark on the internship defence will make the 30% of qualification examinations.
Vahan Sargsyan considered the identification of students having made the correct choice of profession, the quality of work carried out by the group-leaders, stakeholder involvement through the process of mutual evaluation of real capabilities, etc. to be the strengths of the process.
On the contrary, the portfolios contain a lot of descriptive parts, incompliance of summarising abstracts with all requirements, insufficient attention to the assessment dimension, etc., were negatively accepted.
In his turn, the Rector Rouben Mirzakhanyan emphasized that proper organization of the internship processes, presenting his observations regarding the topic and noticing that annually the number of institutions where future teachers would spend their internship is being cut down; today the former number of 200 institutions has decreased to 15.
The Rector once again highlighted that the internships shouldn’t be bearing a formal nature, and the conducting methodists must have high professional skills.
Later on during the meeting Rouben Mirzakhanyan spoke about the importance of participation of students into summer schools, knowledge of languages, active involvement of the teaching-professorial staff in learning processes, scientific activities including expanding the scope of publications in international journals.
During the workshop various questions and suggestions were discussed both regarding the new electronic learning platform, and effectiveness of organizing internships.
