On December 26, Rector of Armenian State Pedagogical University Ruben Mirzakhanyan and vice-rectors of the university had a year-end meeting with members of the ASPU Student Council to discuss with students achievements, problems and other issues of concern.
During the meeting, the students spoke about Google Classroom - a new e-learning platform introduced at the University recently, its advantages and the difficulties they had met.
Ruben Mirzakhanyan stressed that e-learning system was introduced in European and U.S. universities about 15 years ago and had some problems in the beginning. Each new educational system should be adapted to national and local educational system and its peculiarities. Only after this will it have positive results,” the rector stressed.
During the meeting, the students also referred to Summer School programmes. Speaking about international cooperation, Summer Schools and students exchange programmes, Ruben Mirzakhanyan stressed that ‘the knowledge of foreign languages continues to remain the main problem.’
“Nothing but the necessity can compel a person to learn a foreign language. One must know his Mother Tongue fluently but it is very difficult to remain without the knowledge of a foreign language in this era. Knowledge of foreign languages is a necessity nowadays regardless of one’s profession,” he stressed.
In his speech, the ASPU Rector also referred to the university-employer cooperation, stressing that ‘unemployment is a serious problem today, but the labour market has a demand for good specialists.’
Mr. Mirzakhanyan also spoke about the ASPU image and rankings, urging students to do their best to retain and even boost its reputation.
The students thanked the ASPU Rector for the reception and friendly conversation, praising the student-centered policy of the University.
At the end of the meeting, Artur Hovhannisyan and Hrag Keshishyan, both students of the Faculty of Culture majoring in TV Directing, were awarded “Drastamat Kanayan” medals of the RA Ministry of Defense for their professional activity on the frontline.
