OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY IN THE FIELD OF PSYCHIATRY

This course enables future occupational therapists to acquire the necessary knowledge and acquire important skills to work in the field of mental health, as well as to familiarize themselves with different work structures, theoretical approaches, which are applicable in the field of mental health. During the course, students are able to form their own ideas when building an ergotherapy intervention by getting to know and discussing the peculiarities and needs of visitors.

Much of the theoretical knowledge that students have gained from previous modules can be applied in this course.

The aim of the course is to develop practical skills of ergotherapy intervention implemented in mental health care, to familiarize with the basic ergotherapy principles and approaches used in this field.

At the end of the course, the student will be able to:

  • To select and classify the ergotherapy approaches aimed at improving the process of overcoming problems and recovery of people with psychiatric problems.
  • To use modern ergotherapy methods to study the features of physical and social adaptation of people with psychiatric problems.
  • To classify the scientific and methodological knowledge acquired in the field of ergotherapy activity.
  • Develop principles and criteria for selecting and applying assessment tools.
  • Apply the modern methodology of ergotherapy to plan, organize, manage, control and evaluate the process of overcoming and recovering the problems of people with psychiatric problems.
  • Develop and communicate professional, informative materials in a second language.
  • Ability to apply critical, creative thinking, professional activity planning skills and transfer them.
