RELIGIOUS STUDIES (THEORY AND HISTORY OF RELIGION)

The goal of the course is to acquaint with the role and place of Religious Studies as an independent field of knowledge and discipline. The course provides general knowledge regarding Religious Studies as a field of knowledge, its history and development, its methods of study or methodology, and the main areas of religious studies: philosophy of religion, sociology of religion, psychology of religion, phenomenology of religion, anthropology of religion, history of religion and cognitive study of religion. The course studies the main theories/ concepts of religion, the origin, development, growth of religion. The course explores the formation of early religious believes that is the historical forms of religious consciousness; the peculiarities of the formation of polytheistic religions and the transition from it to monotheism; the structure and basic elements of religion; the exchange of communication and interaction between religion and other cultures; the function and role of religion in the life of the society and individual. The course also studies the history of world religions - Buddhism, Christianity and Islam, and the fundamentals of their teachings.

Bachelor Course for fourth year. 2 credits.

60 hours general from which 14 hours lectures, 4 hours practical lessons, 42 hours students’ independent work.
