The “Chess” Research Centre (Centre for Educational Research in Chess) was established in 2015. The Psychology Research Laboratory of the Centre conducts sociological, psychological and pedagogical research aimed at improving chess teaching at school.
The objective of the Centre is to contribute to the continuous improvement of chess lessons at school and monitor the process.
Research areas of the Centre include:
- Comparative studies of chess training and educational progress: it is planned to develop and test instruments to assess reading, mathematical literacy and problem-solving abilities, and identify contextual factors in assessing effectiveness of chess teaching
- methodological problems in teaching chess: work in this area focuses on the following topics;
Development of quality evaluation methodology by the example of chess teaching
Creation of chess instructional materials; training and professional development of chess teachers
- Chess and inclusive education practices, which is divided into subtopics
- psychophysiological studies of teaching outcomes and cognitive processes
- chess teaching and study of emotional and behavioral changes among learners
- Interpersonal relationships between learners and impact of chess lessons
The ongoing research in this direction aims to develop and introduce psychoregulation technologies in the system of inclusive education and to create a package of chess training methods for individuals with special educational needs.
